The Miami football player was found to be a driver in the collision between two cars that killed three people in another vehicle, two of whom were children, police said Monday.
Linebacker Adarius Hayes was injured in a wreck but was released from hospital.
The people killed in Kia Soul were 78, 10 and 4 years old.

“We are deeply saddened to learn that the crash caused three deaths, as confirmed by the Largo police, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those who have been lost,” the Hurricane said in a statement.
The school is still working to gather more information.
Another passenger at KIA was hospitalized with serious injuries, police said.

“There were no signs of failure in any of the drivers of the vehicle,” Lago Police spokesperson Megan Santo said in a statement distributed Sunday.
The Orlando Sentinel noted that Hayes has a history of quotations that include several instances of speeding, and another history of quotations for careless driving that leads to another crash.
Hayes played 12 games last season as a Miami freshman. He was a four-star recruit from Largo High, and after attracting interest from Florida, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio, he chose Miami.

Largo is located about 20 miles east of Tampa and about 15 miles north of St. Petersburg on the Gulf Coast of Florida.
