The former Michigan football coach has been accused of hacking the personal information of thousands of athletes and stealing “intimate” photos and videos.
Matt Weiss, 42, was hit by a 24-count federal charge on Thursday, prosecutors said. He was fired from his coaching position under former head coach Jim Harbaugh following an investigation into alleged crime.
According to the accusations, from 2015 to 2023, Weiss “gained unauthorized access to a database of over 100 university student-athletes maintained by third-party vendors.”

He is said to have since downloaded personal information and data from more than 150,000 athletes. From there, Weiss got access to information from over 2,000 athletes, including access to social media, email and cloud storage.
Weiss has been accused of using this information to download “personal, intimate digital photos and videos that will never be shared beyond their intimate partners.”

Weiss faces worsening identity theft of 14 and 10 counts of unauthorized access to his computer. He faces a maximum of five years in prison for each unauthorized access fee, up to two years at each count of identity theft. Each unauthorized access to your computer also comes with a $250,000 fine.

Weiss is the co-offensive coordinator for the Wolverine team, winning the Big Ten and reaching the College Football playoffs in 2022. He also worked for Harbaugh at Stanford before joining the Baltimore Ravens staff.
