Tensions were high as the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners benches were cleared on Saturday night.
The reason is that Blue Jays starter Jose Bellios faced Mariners' slugger Cal Lowry, and the former believed he was telling his teammates what kind of pitch he was coming while he was on base.
Berios and Laurie were passing each other as the innings approached the end, and the pitcher was clearly telling the catcher his work.

The bench was clean as it had its chins back and forth, but there was nothing physical from the argument.
After the match, Belios explained why he felt he had to say something to Laurie.

“I don't respond that often,” Berios said. “I'm a quiet and cold guy. But when some people are trying to fight us on the field, I don't respect that. I don't like it.”
Meanwhile, Rory denied relaying the pitch to his teammates.
“I want the pitchers to do the same,” Laurie said when asked about Berios's words. “If anyone thinks they're turning, I want them to say something. How is that? A competitive baseball game. People are at the heart of it.”

Berios wasn't happy, but his manager knows that stealing signs in a legitimate way is a completely “fair game.”
“The team does that. We get it,” explained John Schneider. “In the heat of the moment, you fire a bit. I didn't think I needed to clear the bench. There was nothing crazy about it.
The Mariners ultimately defeated the Blue Jays 8-4. Rory was 3-2 with two RBIs, and two with one run and three walks.
