Chicago Cubs catcher Carson Kelly hit the cycle when he lost track and field 18-3 on Monday night at Sutter Health Park.
Kelly, 30, hit home runs in four innings, two runs singles in five, and doubled in six innings.
He had left the triple from the cycle a few times ago, so he knew that the odds stacked against him to get the elusive triple.

“I was in the same position where I needed a triple for the cycle. If anyone's ever looked up my numbers, I have two triples, so the odds aren't my favourite, right?” Kelly said after the match.
“I didn't get it for the first time. This time I hit it like, 'Oh, I'm going to put together a good at-bat.” “Ah, pretty good.” Then I hit (one base) and bouncing it off, and I was like, “Oh, this is here, I have to go.” It's probably the fastest you've seen me running. ”
In his eighth triple, Kelly became the first Cub spray player to hit the cycle since Mark Grace. The original first baseman did it on May 9, 1993 against the San Diego Padres. Kelly was the first Cubscatcher to hit the cycle as Randy Handley did it on August 11, 1966.
Kelly said he knew grace.

“I know Mark Grace in Arizona too. I have to hit him,” Kelly said. “A pretty special. Amazing achievement. I didn't think I would get. I'm very fortunate and blessed. Lots of effort, lots of great teammates are making me excited. So overall, it's a very special night.”
Kelly also hit for the cycle and became the third major leaguer to walk twice in the same game. Joe Gordon did it for the New York Yankees in 1940, and Mickey Cochran did it for the Philadelphia A in 1937.
Kelly knew he was going to cycle, but his manager, Craig Counsel, was not.
“I didn't realize he had a chance in the cycle, but when the ball kicked the wall, the dugout started to get hooked, so I thought something was going on,” Counsel said. “They're fun days, they're rare days, they're once in a lifetime type of day for players.”
