One member of the Washington Nationals Ground crew was not as fast as needed during the rain delay at Nationals Park on Saturday.
The rain began to fall in the first innings of the scoreless game between the Nationals and the New York Mets.
The game started later than planned due to bad weather, but conditions forced the game to halt immediately while it was in progress.

However, shortly after the onsite crew was instructed to pull out the tarp, one person narrowly avoided what could have been seriously injured.

The members of that ground crew appeared to be losing his balance, and his momentum carried him forward and above the tarp. Members of the fellow crew continued to deploy the tarp temporarily, resulting in the waterproof cover being rolled onto the man's back.
The rain delay lasted less than an hour. Once action resumed, Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez hit a two-run homer in two innings to give New York a 2-0 lead. The Mets maintained that lead in the eighth innings.

The game also marked former Washington star Juan Soto's first series at Nationals Park as a member of the Mets.

Soto spent the first 4½ seasons of his MLB career with the Nationals. He was traded to the San Diego Padres in August 2022. Soto hit a career-high 41 run in 2024 during his only season with the New York Yankees.
He switched New York City boroughs during the offseason to trade in Mets Blue and Orange Pinstripes. When Soto agreed to join the Mets, he signed the most profitable contract in North American sports history. The 15-year contract is reportedly worth a record $765 million.
