Boston Red Sox outfielders Wiley Abreu and Sedannu Rafaela paired for a rare 9-8 put out in a 6-5 defeat to the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park on Wednesday.
With the score tied 5-5 at the bottom of the seventh inning, the Tigers designated Kelly Carpenter, who designated hitter Kelly Carpenter, crushing Liam Hendrix's high fastball into the field in the middle right.
Abreu, the Red Sox right fielder, pursued the ball as he returned to the wall. Abreu jumped up and got his gloves, but couldn't pull it in. And the ball was set to bounce off his gloves and over the wall for a Go-Ard home run for a Carpenter.
