More than two years ago, the Atlanta Hawks selected forward AJ Griffin out of Duke University in the first round of the NBA Draft.
However, before the end of the 2024-25 season, Griffin announced his departure from the NBA. He played in 92 games, averaging 17.1 minutes and 7.5 points per game. He was traded from the Hawks to the Houston Rockets in the offseason.

He explained Sunday why he decided to retire from basketball.
“I quit basketball to follow Jesus,” he said. “And I know in many people's eyes it looks like a loss to the world. But I just want to tell you, I'm really excited to be serving God. That means there is.'' I answer with all my might, “Yes.'' I feel that by quitting basketball, I will be able to engage in full-time ministry and truly serve the Lord with all of my time. , I'm really looking forward to seeing where it takes me. ”
Griffin said her decision stems from her “giving my whole life to Christ” in 2020.

“I still love basketball, but I know there are more important things, my family and my faith,” he said in a letter to Andscape at the time. “I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses and my faith means everything to me. I find great joy in volunteering to help others and participating in worldwide missions. That joy. With that said, I have decided to retire from Jehovah's Witnesses.'' NBA. ”
