The president-elect, who took back the presidency just last week, announced his selection on Thursday. Kennedy initially entered the presidential race as a Democrat, ran as an independent, and ultimately dropped out to support the Trump campaign, but expressed gratitude to the president-elect in a post about X.
“We have a generational opportunity to bring together the best talent in science, medicine, industry, and government to end the chronic disease epidemic,” he wrote. “I look forward to working with HHS's more than 80,000 employees to pursue our mission of lifting the agency from the cloud of corporate takeovers and making Americans once again the healthiest people on earth.” Masu.”
President Kennedy vowed to “root out corruption, end the revolving door between industry and government, and return our nation's health institutions to the gold standard and rich tradition of evidence-based science.”

Kennedy's selection was met with a wave of criticism and praise, mostly related to his stance on vaccines.
U.S. Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., called Kennedy's nomination “insane” and accused him of being a “vaccine denier” and a “tinfoil hat conspiracy theorist.” But Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat, praised the pick, adding that Kennedy “was instrumental in defeating Colorado's vaccine mandate.”
Many users on social media criticized Gobert for the post. The four-time Defensive Player of the Year was famously one of the first players in the NBA to contract COVID-19 in 2020.
