The 2025 NFL Draft brought a considerable portion of surprises, but the Chedure Sanders saga became an enthusiastically discussed topic.
The Cleveland Browns chose Sanders in the fifth round. Shortly after the choice, Sanders took her to social media to share a short but emotional message, “Thank God.” Since then, many people from the sports world and beyond have shared their thoughts on why Sanders fell to the draft board.
Pro Football Hall of Fame Chris Carter is one of the latest former NFL stars to consider the situation for Sanders.

Carter suggested that Sanders sacrificed tens of millions of dollars due to his disposal and overall handling up until last week's draft, which looked like an unfiltered take.

“[Sheduer and his family]thought he was in the same rating mode as Eli Manning, and they didn't play it correctly,” Carter said in a recent sit-in on the “fully loaded” podcast.
“Are they trying to narrow down the team he was planning on going to? It wasn't right. Why not exercise at the combine? That wasn't the right thing to do. His interview process.

NFL legend also pushed back the notion that the league conspired to prevent Sanders from becoming a high draft pick. Carter claimed that the former Colorado quarterback and his family “overestimated their hands.”
“A lot of things happened. The first thing that didn't happen was that there was no conspiracy message with the NFL owners,” Carter said. “They won't be able to keep such a secret. They won't be able to keep quiet about it. All owners are very selfish. Now, why am I doing something to my disadvantage? I overestimated their hands.”

Carter admitted that Sanders had intangible assets worthy of a first-round pick, but not before he targeted the quarterback physical properties.

“He doesn't have big arms. He's not a big guy. He's not overly athletic. His measurements are not measurable for the first round, for example. But he played football like in the first round. But you don't play football all the time.
Sanders finished the 2024 season with 4,134 yards. He is the son of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the head coach of Colorado Football, Deion Sanders. He joins Cleveland's busy quarterback room. The room will feature Desshaun Watson, Joe Flaco, Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel.
