Jones, 27, had the opportunity to stay in Minnesota, especially after free agent Sam Darnold agreed to a lucrative three-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks on Monday. Instead, he will compete with Anthony Richardson for the role of starting 2025.
Richardson was selected by the Colts in the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. His rookie season went off track after suffering a shoulder injury that sidelined him in week 5.
He returned last season and missed more time due to injuries, but he also had two games on the bench for his performance on the field.

Colts' Jonathan Taylor is confident in Anthony Richardson, and after the first season of Sub-Pearl
Richardson was expected to be an Indy long-term starter, but Jones' addition could be a challenge.
Colts general manager Chris Ballard said last month that the team will add another quarterback to the mix at the league's annual scouting combine, a combine in Indianapolis.
“You have to be the right guy to cause real competition,” he said. “I think it's good for the team. I think it's good for Anthony. I looked, drafted Anthony High and knew there was a hiccup along the way.”

Head coach Brian Daball agreed to Jones' third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito in November, urging him to demand that he be released. He joined the Vikings with a 24-44-1 regular season record and a 1-1 playoff record.
