Former New England Patriots No. 1 general Pickkenneth Sims died Friday at age 65.
Sims was fighting illness and died of sleep every 247 Sports.
The Sims, the first pick in the 1982 NFL Draft, played all along with the Patriots for eight years in the NFL. In 74 career games, the Sims recorded 17 bags.

Throughout his NFL career, Sims dealt with many injuries. The only season he played in all games was in 1984.
The defender had back surgery in 1987, and he was limited to 12 games. The following season, in 1988, he broke the Achilles tendon and played in just one game.
Sims played 15 games in 1989 before a knee injury sidelined him in his final game before retiring.

When Sims was drafted in 1982, he became the third Texas Longhorn to be selected at the top pick.
He exploded into the scene in his junior season after Sims supported a future professional football hall of fame during his sophomore season in Texas. Sims recorded 131 tackles and was named All Southwest Conference and All American.
As a senior, Sims was named All Southwest Conference and All American, in addition to being the first Texas Longhorn to win a Lombardi Award.

The Lombardi Award is best illustrated by legendary NFL head coach Vince Lombardi and is awarded to college football linemen who focus on personality, discipline and excellence.
Also in his fourth year, Sims was the top defensive voter in the Heisman Trophy after Texas won a 10-1-1 record and a Cotton Bowl victory in 1982.
During his college career, Sims had 322 tackles, 29 sacks, 50 tackles, 15 forced fumbles, seven fumble recovery and three block kicks.
