According to multiple reports, the New York Mets are reviving one-base Pete Alonso in a two-year, $54 million deal.
The agreement reportedly has an opt-out from 2025 onwards. The deal comes with a $10 million signature bonus and a $20 million salary in 2025, and a $24 million player option in 2026.
Alonso was the second pick for the team on the 2016 Florida Gators program team and his first six seasons of home runs (226) including a rookie record 53 who supported his rookie of the year resume in 2019. was hit. He has made four All-Star teams, including each of the last three, and has a career .854 OPS.

Alonso's uncertain return to the Mets was one of the most discussed stories of the MLB offseason. Team owner Steve Cohen expressed skepticism that the team would re-sign Star Slugger during their appearance on the Mets' Amazin Day in late January.
So Cohen said negotiations with Alonso are “worse” than Juan Soto, the team's big offseason signature.

“We made an important offer to Pete, and you know, what David said is right. He has the right to go out and explore his market,” Cohen said. I said. “That's what he's doing. Personally, this was exhausting conversations and negotiations. Soto was tough. This is a bad thing.”
Still, Cohen never ruled out Alonso's return.
“I'm never saying no. There's always a possibility. But the reality is that we're moving forward, we're bringing players in. We keep bringing players in. When we're there, the reality is that it's harder to fit what suits Pete, a very expensive group of players we already have,” Cohen said.

“I'm cruelly honest. I don't like negotiations. I don't like what's presented to us. Maybe it changes. Certainly, I'll always remain flexible. “We have You'll have to get used to the fact that you might have to go along with existing players.”
Currently, Alonso returns to Queens and is paired with Soto for at least one season.
