Pete Rose and his family repeatedly tried to bring MLB's biggest hit king back to baseball without success.
On Tuesday, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred announced that anyone on the baseball ineligible list will be removed from the list upon death.
That meant that Rose's ban from baseball would be lifted and he would qualify for Hall of Fame consideration.

The announcement came more than 24 hours before Rose's Cincinnati Reds hosted Pete Rose Night, a legendary celebration that passed away in September.
Rose's family and other members of the Reds greats attended the pre-match ceremony, with Rose's daughter, Fawn, sharing her reaction to the news.
“From yesterday's news, we got on a plane in Seattle and got a call around 10:15. And then I got a call from my lawyer. …I wanted to be someone standing on this podium.
Fawn Rose praised the commissioner for his argument about his father when his family met Manfred shortly after Pete Rose's death.
“The emotions were overwhelming. I called (Pete Jr.) and I thought someone had died because my kids got emotional at the airport, but that was a big deal. And during the meeting with the commissioner, the commissioner was very grateful,” she said.

Pete Rose's final interviewer responds to his Hall of Fame eligibility and praises Trump for the kickstart movement
“He was elegant and kind and really gave me a forum to talk about my dad. He gave me what he meant to my dad, grandfather and truly to my Cincinnati fans. And I had that visit here in Cincinnati, from my visit to the commissioner, and the overwhelming feelings from my dad and my siblings were given to my city. It's in our DNA.
Other players currently include “Shoeless” Joe Jackson and the rest of the 1919 black socks. Overall, 17 players are currently in baseball.
Rose admitted gambling in 2004 after years of claiming his innocence. He passed away in September and predicted that he would not make a Hall of Fame until he died 10 days before his death.
MLB decided that he was a manager and player just to have Rose gamble and win at Reds.

In 1991, two years after Rose was banned by A. Bartlett Giamatti, the National Baseball Hall of Fame voted to disqualify from baseball that was not eligible for potential induction into Cooperstown.
It's not yet official that Rose will vote, but that's probably up to the committee in the classic baseball era, considering players who have ended their careers more than 15 years ago. The committee will not meet until December 2027, and 12 of the 16 votes must be included.
