Former President Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are deadlocked in Pennsylvania, a virtually must-win state for both candidates, according to a new poll.
A Washington Post poll conducted Thursday showed Harris with 48% approval among eligible and registered voters, compared with Trump's 47%.
But the New York Times poll gives Harris a slight lead at 50% to Trump's 46%. Nationally, however, the Times poll has Harris and Trump tied at 47%.
Both polls were conducted after last week's presidential debate, with most viewers saying Harris won.

However, the Times reported that the debate did not appear to have a significant impact on voters, regardless of who they supported beforehand.

“Despite her strong performance in the debate, VP Harris did not make any significant improvements compared to previous polls, both nationally and in Pennsylvania. The polls are rife with evidence that respondents think VP Harris performed well in the debates and that Trump performed poorly, but the differences were not significant,” the Post wrote.

Former President Donald Trump, who is tied with Harris in the polls, appeared on Fox News' “Red Eye” on Wednesday night.
The Times national poll mirrors results from a national Fox News survey released Wednesday that showed Harris narrowly leading Trump, 50% to 48%, a three-point change from mid-August, when Trump led Harris by one point.
In Pennsylvania, Trump maintains his lead on the two key issues in the election — the economy and immigration — while Harris also maintains her lead on defending democracy and abortion, according to a Washington Post poll.

“Pennsylvania receives the most attention from presidential candidates among the Rust Belt states, and for good reason,” said Dr. Lee M. Miringoff, president of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion Research. “It's the biggest prize in the region, and the most competitive. Winning Pennsylvania doesn't guarantee the White House, but it goes a long way.”
