The Boston Red Sox is the subject of Netflix's latest behind-the-scenes docusary entitled “Clubhouse: Year with the Red Sox.”
One interview that took place during the 2024 season was outfielder Jarren Duran, who ran the Breakout All-Star campaign. However, he discussed the 2021 and 2022 seasons, so the interview was very serious.
Duran is open about his mental health struggles he dealt with, as he failed to meet his high expectations within the organization to begin his major league career.

He revealed that “I was sitting in my room. I had a rifle, I had a bullet, I pulled the trigger, I clicked on the gun, but nothing happened.”
“Until today, God doesn't know why it didn't leave, so I don't think I've let my life take. I said, 'I might have to be here where there is a reason', so when I started looking at myself in the mirror after the gun didn't go away.” “I said, 'Do you want to be here, or do you not want to be here? There's a reason. And obviously you're here, so it's the way you want to be, and the way you want to live with the desire to play.”
Duran detailed his presence in the dark as he heard fans berate him in the outfield during the game. They were yelling him to go back to Triple A Worcester.
After using anti-Gaysler during the game, the Red Sox Jarrenduran was suspended
“I had already heard that from the fans,” he said. “And what they said to me, it was, “I've gotten ten times worse in the mirror. It was a really difficult time for me. I didn't want to be here anymore.”
Duran was a rookie when he cut .215/.241/.336 with over 33 games during the 2021 season. He hit three doubles, two triples and two homers that year with 10 RBIs.
His 2022 campaign wasn't that good as he hit .221 with three Homer and 17 RBIs, over 58 games (204 at-bats).
But Duran turned things around in 2023 as he cut .295/.346/.482 with 34 doubles, eight home runs and 40 RBIs in Boston's 102 games.

He spent his career in 2024, leading MLB in doubles (48), triples (14), at-bats (671), plate appearance (735), belting 21 Homer with 75 RBI.
Duran also made his first career All-Star Game and won MVP honors after betting a home run that the American League beat the National League.
There was some controversy with Duran last season, but MLB paused two games for telling him an anti-gay slur towards the fans. He quickly apologized, saying he felt sorry for his actions and worked to get better from his mistakes.
“Jarlen's decision to share his story is an act of courage to reach far beyond baseball,” Red Sox president and CEO Sam Kennedy said in a statement via ESPN. “He shows that they are not alone, they are not okay with not only asking for help, but also showing others who may be struggling to be essential.
