Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani had to leave Game 2 of the World Series against the New York Yankees due to injury after sliding into second base and being thrown off.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, with one out and Otani on first and second base, Otani attempted to extend his team's lead to 4-1. He attempted to steal second base, but was thrown by catcher Austin Wells. Although the inning ended with an out, Ohtani did not immediately get up and head to the dugout.

MLB on FOX's Ken Rosenthal reported on the air that Ohtani's problem is with his shoulder.
“He will be tested at some point tonight or tomorrow, and we will know more in the next few days,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after the game. “His strength was amazing and his range of motion was good, so that's reassuring.”
Los Angeles won the game 4-2.
Although Ohtani went 0-for-3 in this game, including one walk, he became an important hitter at the top of the Dodgers' lineup, posting a batting average of .260, three home runs, and 10 RBIs this postseason.

The Dodgers signed Ohtani last winter to a record-breaking 10-year, $700 million contract, one of the most unusual pay structures in sports history, with Ohtani not being paid even $680 until the contract is up.
Last year, Ohtani suffered an oblique injury in early September 2023 that ended his season. He was already playing with torn ligaments in his elbow and ultimately underwent Tommy John surgery in mid-September.
