With GOP's “Big Beautiful Bill” heading to the Senate next month, one clause lawmaker from both parties will need to clearly set his sights.
If implemented successfully, it is not an exaggeration to suggest that a significant reduction in overtime tax on American workers is the most politically important measure of the bill, and that Republicans can help them clean up the medium term easily.

When I'm talking to people on the road, it's very rare to continue to mention something for the people after that I never even raised. A clear example of the last election was current Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Ultimately, RFK Jr. played a key role in bringing President Donald Trump to the top.
What I've heard over and over the past few months from workers and employers is how desperately they don't want taxes on overtime.

Regular readers of this column recall Doug and Danny from Jeffersonville, Indiana, coal miners said “taxes are killing people who work.”
Doug says, “[young workers]encourage us to move away from our loved ones and encourage us to produce steel for the customers we have, for the customers we need.
Taxes on overtime have created no excitement for people from Ohio to Texas to West Virginia who seem to never be able to talk to news media.
Compared to more popular cousins, the main reason that overtime taxes are barely ignored is that there is no tax on hints. Most people who produced the news have never done any work that involves traditional overtime, but it's likely that many people work in college.
This also explains exactly why overtime clauses are a much larger transaction. There is a handful of cutting edge jobs that can raise a family, but most are stones. There are millions of jobs that can help raise families with overtime.

For men and women who work in plants, mines and forge these jobs, reducing overtime taxes is much more meaningful than any stimulus check. Stimulus checks are like tickets to a winning scratch-off lottery. Taxes for tips are salary increases. You can plan it and build it around it.
This will take us to the mid-term. By the fall of 2026, if American workers are keeping more money rather than receiving massive amounts of money from the state, but increasing the money they work, all GOP candidates say “they voted against it.”
One of Donald Trump's political superpowers is finding issues that American voters care deeply about what the media is largely ignoring. He did it by fighting orientation, he opposed it to foreign interventionism, he did it by focusing on the health of our children.
I don't know what he's doing. I know how to do that. I travel for hours and hours and talk to people. Trump may talk to the working class people he employs, but maybe he will only judge based on the reaction of the crowd at the rally, but he does that, but the fingers meet Pulse.

Without taxes on overtime, Trump did it again. All Republicans running for Congress outside Silicon Valley and the Upper East Side said, “President Trump and I didn't promise taxes on overtime, so we delivered.”
It appears to be surprising that Trump's poll numbers have recovered after a brief soak caused by a universal freakout over his tariff policy. But there is a very good reason for this. In almost every policy, the president does exactly what he told him he would do.
When workers start seeing that conflict with weekly checks, they can start saving for better holidays, pay more for their kids, or even buy engagement rings for girls. These are the richness of the working class.

Senate Democrats should step carefully as the big beautiful bill lands in the upper room. They decide whether they really want to see their members in their eyes and say, “Do you know what my opponent's party and President Trump gave you? I want to take it.”
Donald Trump's baby has no tax on overtime, but may come midterm. That could be a bundle of great joy for the Republicans.
