There's no shortage of movies about the Beatles. However, director Sam Mendes is embarking on a project that is far apart due to his ambitions (four films, each from the perspective of a different band member).
According to Mendes' production company, the film stars Paul Mezcal, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison and Barry Keogan as Ringo Starr.
Four films tell the story of one of the world's most influential and worshipped bands will be released in April 2028 alongside Creating Your First Burning Theatre Experience.
When releasing last year's films, Mendes, the British director most famous for films such as American Beauty (1999) and Revolutionary Roads (2008), said “I am honored to tell the stories of the greatest rock bands of all time and to be excited to challenge the concepts that make up a trip to film.”
According to the Hollywood Reporter, he announced his cast at the Cinema Con competition in Las Vegas on Monday.
The Beatles have previously been a big screen subject, but include Danny Boyle's “Yesterday” (2019) and Sam Taylor Johnson's “No May Boy” (2009) — this is the first time that, according to Sony Pictures, the band and their estate members have given the full life story and musical rights to the screenplayed film.
Let's take a look at people who play Fab Four.
Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney
Paul Mescal's profile surged last summer when the 29-year-old appeared in Ridley Scott's historic epic, “Gladiator II.” It was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor in 2023, following a rave reviewed performance in the romantic drama “All Our Strangers” and the father-daughter story “Aftersun.”
However, his first television role as Connell in Hulu's 2020 television series “Normal People” transformed the Irish actor into a sexual symbol. He currently stars as Stanley in Brooklyn Academy of Music's “A Streetcar named Desire,” and will play William Shakespeare in the upcoming film adaptation of Maggie O'Farrell's novel “Hamnet.”
Harris Dickinson as John Lennon
British actor Harris Dickinson, 28, broke out in the 2017 independent film “Beach Rat,” and played a young man working on sexuality. He later starred in the historic drama “The King's Man,” the murder mystery “Where the Clodad Sings,” and the dark comedy “Triangle of Sacking.”
Dickinson's fame reached a new level with her performance in 2024's “Baby Girl.” In the film, she played an intern who gets caught up in a relationship with a married boss played by Nicole Kidman.
Joseph Quinn as George Harrison
31-year-old Joseph Quinn played Eddie Manson in the fourth season of the television series “Stranger Things.” He also appeared on the other side of Lupita Nyonggo in “A Quiet Place: First Day” last year, along with Mezcal in “Gladiator II.”
The British actor is set to be a familiar face in Marvel universe as a human torch. This is the role he will play in the upcoming films “Fantastic Four: First Step” scheduled for this summer, as well as in the films Avengers: Doom Day and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Barry Keogan as the Ringo Starr
Barry Keogan was a scene steeler for his supportive roles in “Dunkirk,” “Green Knight,” and “Inisherin's Banshee,” and won an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 2022.
The Irish actor's first starring role became a surprising hit last year on streaming services.
