Cade Cunningham had 33 points and 12 rebounds, Dennis Schroder made a Tiebreaking 3-Pointer with 55 seconds left, and Detroit Pistons lost streaks to defeat the New York Knicks 100-94 in Game 2 of the Playoffs Series.
The Pistons, who have never been in the postseason since 2019, recovered after the Knicks erased a 15-point deficit to score their first playoff victory since Game 4 of the 2008 Eastern Conference Finals against Boston. The Celtics won the final two games of that series, and the Pistons were swept in 2009, 2006 and 2019 before dropping Game 1 at Madison Square Garden.
Now they're back in the victory column, all tied up in the series, hosting Game 3 on Thursday night.
Schroeder, who wasn't even with the Pistons until February's trade, nailed the three-pointer after the Knicks tied together with a 94 in Josh Hart's dunk with a 16-4 run. He finished 20 points off the bench.
The Pistons designed one of the biggest turnarounds in NBA history this season, making it 44-38, including a 28-game losing streak between 2023-24.
They were then in good shape to score Game 1 with an eight-point lead after three-quarters. Detroit built an additional eight-point advantage after three Mondays, and this time they made a big play after another Knick Slurry.
Jalen Brunson scored 37 points for the third-placed Knicks, but Karl Anthonytowns and OG Anunoby were limited to 10 each after both scored 23 points in the opener.
Cunningham bouncing off with a strong performance after the All-Star Guard was just 8 in Game 1 with 21. The Knicks had a hard time keeping him out of the paint and protecting him without fouling.
The Pistons then kept New York in one basket over the first seven minutes of the third quarter. Cunningham and Tobias Harris each had two baskets on an 11-0 run. Paul Reed was out with backup centre Isaiah Stewart with an inflammation of his right knee, with the Pistons giving the biggest lead 68-53, covering the third remaining basket at 5:02.
