At the helm of his nearly 20 years, Mike Tomlin coached the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Super Bowl title and has been consistently considered one of the best coaches in the NFL.
The Steelers are one of the league's most pioneering franchises, but the organization has become accustomed to the postseason burning in recent years. Tomlin has been the Steelers head coach since the 2007 season. He never finished the regular season with a losing record, but it's been eight years since he led his team to victory in the playoff game.
Amidst Pittsburgh's recent disappointment, former Steelers star and current ESPN NFL analyst Ryan Clark provided ideas about the future of Tomlin's coaching.

Clark began by making it clear that Tomlin should not be kicked out of his position.
Mike Tomlin claims that the Steelers are “stuck” and push back to different teams against potential trade
“I don't think Mike Tomlin is possible,” Clark told ESPN. “If Mike Tomlin is away from the Pittsburgh Steelers coach, I think it should be his decision, and I have said it over and over again.

Clark then encouraged his former coach to move on to another NFL team, where he could be considered a “fresh voice.” He also suggested that the coach's message may no longer resonate with current players in the Steelers' locker room.
“I think Mike Tomlin should coach in another organization,” Clark continued. “Mike Tomlin should be a fresh voice somewhere. … He's as great as a coach as he is, so he's the first poll hall of fame. I think his voice is old. I think he allowed his team to reach its highest heights.

The level of quarterback play the Steelers get in the 2025 season can have a big impact on their success. The Pittsburgh quarterback room now has players with more questions than answers.
Mason Rudolph left the Steelers after the 2023 season and joined the Tennessee Titans. The quarterback threw nine touchdowns against nine interceptions in eight games in 2024. Rudolf, Skyler Thompson and rookie Wil Howard are the only quarterbacks signed with the Steelers.

Howard led Ohio State to the national championship in January. Pittsburgh drafted him in the sixth round last month.
The Steelers have expressed interest in veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The four-time NFL MVP met with the Steelers front office and coach, but he has yet to make any official decisions about the future of football.
