The opener of the 2024 NFL regular season in Kansas City is not going according to plan, with kickoff between the Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens expected to be delayed due to thunderstorms in the area.
An announcement was played on the big screen at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium telling fans to head to the upper concourse to avoid the coming rain.
“Please be advised that due to weather conditions, all event/game activities are suspended at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. We ask that all guests move to the concourse to avoid the weather and follow the directions of stadium staff,” the announcement read.

“GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium apologizes for any inconvenience caused and we will let you know when it is safe for you to return to your seats. Thank you.”
The NBC broadcast of the game showed the current situation at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, where fans were braving the constant rain either under shade or standing in the storm waving towels.
Either way, the rain didn't seem to last long, and kickoff is expected to be at 8:40pm ET, according to the NBC broadcast.

The Chiefs also poked fun at a photo the GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium account previously posted of the field and the caption, “The calm before the storm.”
“I didn't mean it literally,” Chiefs replied, as rain began to fall.
Once the rain stops, fans can return to their seats and watch the Chiefs and Ravens kick off the 2024 NFL season in a rematch of the AFC Championship Game from earlier this year.

It was Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs who won on the road against the top-seeded Ravens, led by quarterback Lamar Jackson, and Kansas City won 17-10, allowing them to defend their Super Bowl title against the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas.
But the Ravens come to town with some new faces on offense, especially in the backfield, as veteran powerhouse running back Derrick Henry joins a team that also features up-and-coming receiver Zay Flowers and Jackson's reliable tight end, Mark Andrews.
The Ravens defense is also a stout team that can plague any offense, even with Mahomes at the helm and coach Andy Reid planning the strategy.
The Chiefs were the home team in last year's NFL season opener against the Detroit Lions, but it didn't work out so well for Kansas City, who lost 21-20 on their home turf with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce sidelined with an injury.
