More than 10,000 people submitted name ideas and inspiration, which were announced Thursday along with the team's logo.
The team said its brand identity is based on the energy of the people who call Canada home.

“Tempo is pace. It's speed. It's the heartbeat. And that's what you feel when you step onto the streets of this city, and that's what you feel in the energy of the people who call Canada home.” said Teresa Resch, president of Toronto Tempo. In a press release. “As Canada's WNBA team, I know that tempo sets our own pace, moves to the rhythm of a championship, and inspires people across this country.”
Tempo's logo reflects the team's values embedded in its name.
The forward leaning motion of the logo represents the team's desire for progress. Sharp angles and rounded curves represent the dynamic nature of the team.

The six lines in the logo represent the five players on the court, and the sixth line represents the fans, the sixth player in the game.
“Tempo reflects what fans can expect from this team, which of course includes the in-game experience in the arena,” Resch continued. “The sound of the court, the beat of the music. When choosing the name for Canada's WNBA team, it was very important to capture all of that energy, excitement, and emotion. did.” “
The WNBA awarded Toronto an expansion team in May. Tempo will become the 14th team in the league and begin play at Toronto's Coca-Cola Coliseum in 2026.

The Golden State Valkyries, the WNBA's 13th franchise, will begin selecting players to fill out their roster in the expansion draft on Friday.
The Valkyries' expansion draft will be the first expansion draft held in the WNBA in 16 years.
The league plans to hold another expansion draft next year, as Tempo is one of two franchises to debut in 2026. Portland also acquired an expansion team in September.
