Public school districts are in the process of transferring from Nevada's High School Sports Conference to California conferences, allowing them to avoid Nevada's new policy of protecting biological girls' competitions and locker rooms.
Tahoe Truckee Unified School District (TTUSD) in Truckee, California is leaving the Internevada Vision Activities Association (NIAA) to join the California Interstate Interstate Coalition (CIF).
The change comes into effect in the fall of 2025 after the NIAA voted to ban trans athletes from the women's category at the April 2nd Board of Trustees. It was created to comply with President Donald Trump's executive order “demote men out of women's sports.” However, California continues to ignore order and is able to include trans into women's sports.

Multiple TTUSD parents and female athletes pleaded with school officials not to switch to the California federal state at a Truckee Unified School Board meeting Wednesday night.
Not only did they speak out about the concept of allowing transathletes in women's sports, but many speakers pointed out that other details on the Switch will affect the district's sports team's ability to carry out seasons, including travel and scheduling changes that result in potential weather complications for outdoor events.
The current setup with Truckie, competing in the NIAA, allows teams to travel to Nevada for most of the away competition, as the town is near the Northern California-Nevada border. However, with the changes that follow, student-athletes had to travel west immediately for most of the away contests.
This means that students often have to travel to the California Donor Pass, a 7,056-foot mountain pass. During the winter, this path is known to be dangerous due to extreme weather conditions such as heavy snow, strong winds and icy roads. Height and frequent storms contribute to dangerous travel conditions, including the potential avalanche.

Truckee High School School Girls 'Crack and Field Athlete Ava Cochram has expressed his fear of playing against a trans athlete.
“Men generally have more muscle mass, higher lung capacity and higher bone density, which gives them a greater physical advantage in sports. I think it's very unfair to see all of the efforts they put in as women.” “I have nothing to trans people, but I think this is a violation of our privacy.”
Kenzi Jill Storff, a soccer, track and basketball athlete at Trucky High School Girls, lamented the idea of trading with trans athletes in the same locker room, increasing the risk of travel along with change.
“If a woman has to go to the locker room with a man, that's even worse. There are two genders, a man and a woman,” Jillstorff said. “And I think it's unfair to have a dangerous will to put our lives at the summit when it's snowing due to privacy rules. This is wrong.”
Anna Holly, a female soccer player from North Starhoe High School, said she has no intention of playing girls' soccer anymore because of the change.
“That's sad for me, because this is the only time I've ever played soccer in my life and I really enjoy it, but I'm choosing basketball more than that,” Holly said. “And biologically, boys are born at speed and strength than girls and need to compete against them. They have an unfair advantage. I don't feel safe with them. I also have safety concerns about how strong they are than us.”

TTUSD still defended its decision to switch to CIF in a statement provided to Fox News Digital.
“The recent policy changes made by the Nevada Interstate Activities Association (NIAA) on April 2, 2025 will directly dispute California law, particularly the delegation of California Education Act to discrimination and protecting student privacy. Given the direct conflict between the NIAA's recent policy changes and the power of attorney for California law, we thought that the California Association was participating in the hearing association, Fox News Digital.
TTUSD also said it expects the new arrangement to reduce travel time for student-athletes for away competition, despite concerns over donor passes.
“TTUSD is working with the CIF on details related to league allocations, schedules and travel distances. All mileage student-athletes expect travel within the CIF to be less than their current travel schedule,” the district statement read.

The CIF has been one of many high school sports conferences in Blue State since it was signed on February 5th, in opposition to Trump's executive order.
The U.S. Department of Education is currently investigating against the order, and Education Secretary Linda McMahon warned Gov. Gavin Newsom that his state could be subject to a fragile federal funding freeze.
