EXCLUSIVE: Former President Trump said “comments” from President Biden and Vice President Harris were what prompted him to “shoot” following the second assassination attempt since July, telling Fox News Digital that the suspect “acted” on “very inflammatory words” from Democrats.
Trump spoke exclusively to Fox News Digital in an interview on Monday morning, the day after Secret Service agents discovered a man with a gun in some bushes and scurried him away from the Trump International golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Who is Ryan Wesley Routh: Trump Golf Club Suspect
The suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, was pointing an AK-47 style rifle at Greene through a chain link fence, was carrying a GoPro camera and two backpacks, and fled the scene before being stopped and arrested on Interstate 95.
Authorities are treating the incident as an assassination attempt on President Trump.

President Trump was unharmed after the second assassination attempt since July.
“He believed Biden and Harris at their word and he acted on it,” Trump said of the shooter in an interview with Fox News Digital. “They shot me because of their words, but I'm in a position to save our country. They're destroying our country from the inside out.”
Trump pointed to past comments by Biden and Harris in which they described him as a “threat to democracy” and told Americans they were leaders of “unity.”
“They are the exact opposite,” Trump said. “They are people who want to destroy our country.”
“This is called the enemy from within. They are the real threat,” he added.

A background check on the person authorities provided, named Ryan Wesley Routh, revealed that the suspect currently lives in Hawaii and has had multiple run-ins with police dating back to at least the 1990s.
Rouse had previously repeated Biden and Harris' anti-Trump rhetoric on his social media pages, claiming that “democracy is on the ballot this year” and that Democrats “cannot lose.”
Trump campaign claims it's safe even if they hear gunfire nearby
Routh posted frequently about politics and donated exclusively to Democratic candidates and causes.
“They're using a combination of rhetoric and lawsuits to get me involved,” Trump said. “This is what dangerous fools like mass shooters hear. It's the rhetoric they hear, and it's the same in the first case.”
Democrats, meanwhile, have repeatedly accused Trump of escalating tensions, particularly branding him a “threat to democracy” over his response to the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.
Biden referred to Trump's comments about Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, over the weekend and suggested Trump was trying to incite violence.
“Any president should reject hate on American soil,” Biden said at a weekend event, “and not incite hatred.”
The White House, Harris' campaign and the office of her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's requests for comment.

Trump also said Biden and Harris' policies were “destroying” the country by “allowing millions of extremely dangerous immigrants to come in and destroy our countries and our cities.”
“From the outside, we appear weak, we appear powerless and we are no longer respected by the world,” Trump said.
Meanwhile, reflecting on last week's debate with Harris, Trump slammed the media.
“The media is made up of idiots who spew out[Democrat]garbage and sick philosophies and want to protect the Democrat Party at all costs. I can't believe they're allowed to do that,” Trump said. “The Democrat Party is totally protected by the media.”
Trump said last week's ABC News debate was “very lopsided and out of control.”
“Harris is the one who lied about Project 2025, she lied about abortion, she lied about everything,” Trump said. “She was correcting me.”
“It was three against one,” he said. “I was surprised by David Muir. I thought he was a brilliant guy, but he was just a scumbag, like the rest of them.”

But with just 50 days until Election Day, Trump warned Democrats to be careful with their rhetoric.
“They use very inflammatory language,” he said. “I can use it much better than they can, but I don't use it.”
The latest assassination attempt comes after Trump was shot and killed by police on July 13 at a rally in Pennsylvania, leaving one person dead and several others injured.
