President Donald Trump is in a full trade war with China, whose leader accused the United States of “economic bullying” and declared Beijing to “fight” America in all types of “wars.”
What they don't understand is that the tariff war is part of Trump's sophisticated, multifaceted strategy aimed at reducing the much greater threat China poses to America. To implement this strategy, according to Trump's right-hand man on Trump's economic deals, he will personally be involved in trade negotiations to implement this strategy.
Trump is fighting an unkinic war with Beijing to avoid something that is certainly devastating for both the US and China. There is his understanding of China and his rationale for the “strategic separation” doctrine team that Trump has developed to tame our most dangerous enemies.

China has been in war with the United States for many years using the “unlimited war” doctrine developed by Chinese military strategists from the PLA in 1999. The goal is to achieve China's declared grand plan, which includes two parts.
“Unlimited War” is designed to prevent the United States from stumbling on China's grand plans by weaponizing fentanyl, eroding its industrial base, and developing dependence on China in key regions that support the lives and defense capabilities of its citizens.
So far, China has adopted non-kinic measures against our hometown. However, Xi Jinping has given orders to his troops “be prepared by 2027” to make the Taiwan invasion successful. China regularly plays a practical war game in which the military, navy and air forces are involved and practiced for invasion. The latest one was held on April 1st and 2nd. A bold statement from the Chinese Embassy on March 3 shows that Beijing feels ready for today's movement conflict. “If war is what the US wants, whether it's a tariff war, a trade war, or another kind of war, we're ready to fight to the end,” it said.

Trump wants to avoid being dragged into a movement war with China that we cannot win. According to the 2024 Commission on Defense Strategy, if China invades Taiwan tomorrow, the US could fail to intervene. Our army “lacks both the ability and the ability” to stop or win such wars. Depending on your particular weapon system, you may run out of armament in 3-4 weeks, or even just a few days.
Through his tariff war, Trump may be aiming to weaken China's economy and slow Taiwan's invasion. Buy time for US industry to remodel, reestablish new supply chains and rebuild manufacturing capabilities.

Trump is also working to reverse his dependence on China. China has been cultivated deliberately over the years by Beijing. Perhaps they aim to change Xi's decision calculations to begin an invasion of the island. Today, the US relies on China for its major industries, including pharmaceutical drugs and four manufacturing areas. Electronics, clothing, textiles, plastic products, medical products, healthcare supplies. These supplies include anesthesia equipment, needles, syringes, blood pressure monitors, fingertip pulse oximeters, respiratory systems, and life-saving medical devices.
Most of the over-the-counter drugs in the US are imported from China. 91% of US-filled prescriptions are common drugs. 95% of ibuprofen supply and 45% of penicillin supply come from China.
Our critical and dangerous dependence on China in the medical industry was clearly demonstrated during the Covid-19 pandemic when we experienced a massive shortage of basic products such as masks and hand sanitizers. Can you imagine if you couldn't buy an aspirin box from CVS? The US imports most of the aspirin from China and produces 120 billion tablets a year.
Trump is also working to reverse China's dependence on key minerals that have reached a crisis rate, presenting significant national security risks in his homeland. These minerals serve as important functions in the manufacture of critical products, including our most sensitive weapon systems.

A recent report by the US Geological Survey (USGS), the lead federal scientific organization responsible for research and analysis of mineral resources, reveals that the US is 100% net import dependencies of 12 of the 50 key minerals in its 2022 key mineral list, with an additional 29 of over 50% net import dependencies.
A council hearing held in February revealed that our supply chain for critical minerals is vulnerable. China is keenly aware of this vulnerability and has banned the US exports of key minerals gallium, germanium and antimony in December. They are part of a group of 50 “important” minerals, including aluminum, antimony, arsenic, barite and beryllium, and are essential for energy, electronics, the latest technology and military applications.
On April 4, China announced strict export controls to the United States for seven rare earth elements: samarium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, lutetium, scandium and yttrium. These seven are part of 17 “rare” earth minerals, a subset of 50 important minerals, and are essential for the production of both commercial products such as smartphones, electric vehicles, missiles, rockets, fighter jets, and satellites.

China produces 90% of the world's rare earths, and could be free to stabilize the global supply chain. The bond from China will encourage Trump's efforts to conclude a mineral trade between Ukraine and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The same rationale underpins his pursuit to win Greenland. Greenland has large reserves of critical minerals, and the world's largest rare earth sediments, both of which are largely undeveloped.

In his inventive work, The Art of War, ancient Chinese military strategist San Tzu declared that the most practical way to win is to break the opponent's will to fight and avoid actual war.
Trump's Chinese strategy is focused on doing business deals with the enemy rather than doing war with them, consistent with his campaign promise not to send men and women to serve us to fight foreign wars. And it's the art version of Trump's war.
