Democrat National Committee (DNC) vice-chairman David Hogg stole the heat on social media on Monday after criticising President Donald Trump for appearing on the Daytona 500.
Trump was at Daytona International Speedway for the event and became the first president to participate in two races. He was in the “Beast,” the president's limousine. That's because they led the driver with a pace lap before the green flag fell. He also delivered a personal message to the racers.

Just as Trump said the spirit of NASCAR and its fans will be “fueled by America's golden age,” Hogg argued that the president's decision to go to the race was nothing more than a “promotion stunt.”
“Millions of dollars claiming they care so much about 'efficiency' because thousands of people being illegally fired from their jobs and keep prices rising is a perfect symbol for Trump administrators. Drive in circles for advertising stunts,” Hogg wrote to X.
DNC officials faced criticism of his remarks.

Hogg took over as DNC Vice-Chair earlier this month. He became a prominent survivor of Parkland, Florida, and in 2023 he formed the Political Action Committee. He said he aims to help young progressives become elected to the national legislature and state legislature.

Trump praised the NASCAR driver while appearing in the race.
“They have the courage to do this. I saw it and I was here,” the president told Fox Sports' Jamie Little. “As they say, they have a lot of courage.”
Trump, whose granddaughter joined the track, highlighted US progress since starting his second term as president.

“I think it's great. I think it's great for the country,” he said. “The country is on track again. We have a spirit all over the world. We have a spirit again, we have a spirit, we have it back, and it takes less than four weeks. You're what we're doing. You can see what it is. But this is very exciting.”
