The college softball player and her coach are dead after Team Bass gets caught up in a head-on collision in Oregon.
Coach Jami Strinz tragically killed Kiley Jones, a freshman on the Umpqua Community College softball team, on Friday night when the team's bus was hit by another car while returning home from a game in Coos Bay, Oregon.

“We are deeply saddened to see that one of the student-athletes, Kiley Jones, and one of our coaches, Jami Strinz, lost their lives in the accident. Additional staff and students will remain in the hospital in Eugene and Portland. UCC Heart is breaking the news and praying for their families and those affected in statements and prayers.

“These individuals were important members of our campus. They are exceptional student-athletes, passionate and talented coaches. Our whole community is grieving this tragic loss, and our sincere despair is with their families, teammates and loved ones. Individuals.”
According to an accident report from the Oregon State Police, Strinz was driving a team bus around 9:56pm when a Chevrolet Silverado driver moved in the opposite direction, crossing the centerline into the lane where the bus was traveling and attacking directly from above.
Jones, 19, was declared dead at the scene, and Strintz, 46, was taken to hospital in dangerous conditions, where she later died. There were 10 members of the softball team on the bus during the crash.

The other eight people on the bus are said to be “moderate to serious injuries.”
Jonathan James Dowdy, 32, a Chevrolet Silverado driver, suffered “serious injuries” and was taken to a local hospital. Law enforcement said investigation into the fatal conflict is ongoing.
Jones played one base in his team's 28 appearances. Strintz was named the “first head coach in program history” this season. She leaves behind her partner Steve Williams and daughter Sari, according to the team's website.

The Umpqua Community College softball team cancelled both games on Saturday after their tragic death. They are scheduled to play next on Friday.
