The United Football League announced Monday that it has begun an expansion process aimed at growing from last season's eight teams.
The UFL was created by the merger of the USFL and the XFL. The 2024 season saw the Arlington Renegades, Birmingham Stallions, Michigan Panthers, Houston Roughnecks, Memphis Showboats, San Antonio Brahmas, St. Louis BattleHawks, and D.C. Defenders begin their first season in the new league.

Now, UFL wants to expand into new markets.
“As the UFL lays the foundation for future growth, we explore new market expansions where spring football can not only survive, but thrive,” UFL President and CEO Russ Brandon said in a news release. We are excited to get started.”
“These expansion efforts are a testament to our vision and early success, and reinforce our commitment to ensure that spring football resonates with fans and expand its reach. Our Ownership With the strength and structure of the group, and our media partners, we look forward to identifying communities that have the potential and desire to host a UFL team in the long term.”

The UFL has been instrumental in the success of spring football, which was once an unfeasible idea.
Players like Kavonte Turpin, Brandon Aubrey, Jake Bates, and Gareon Conley are just a few of the players who have made the transition from spring football to the NFL in recent years.
The league said it “considers several core characteristics when selecting new cities, including fan interest, existing sports culture, geography and population, and venue and infrastructure availability.” .
