An illegal Venezuelan immigrant charged with numerous crimes has been released multiple times despite being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), authorities in Virginia announced.

ICE announced the arrest of 30-year-old Yohandri Roger Mosquera-Rozas on charges of serious injury, DUI, hit and run, and numerous gun crimes. He was arrested by ICE's Special Response Team on September 12 in Springfield, Virginia.

Mosquera was released to the United States by border authorities in October 2022. He was granted parole to the United States, but authorities said he violated entry conditions.

He was arrested by Fairfax County Police in January 2023 and charged with aggravated assault, reckless handling of a firearm, leaving a firearm unloaded – endangering a child under 14, and a felony. He was charged with using a firearm with intent to commit.

ICE has issued a detainer order, which requests authorities to notify suspected illegal immigrants so that they can be taken into federal custody upon release from state or local custody. “Sanctuary” jurisdictions do not respect detainees.

In this case, the detainee was ignored and Mr. Mosquera was released. He was arrested on firearms charges in June but was released before ICE released him into custody. He was arrested two more times for driving violations in February 2024 and May 2024, and was once again ignored as an ICE detainer. Fox News Digital has reached out to the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office for comment.

“The charges against Johandri Roger Mosquera-Rozas pose a serious threat to our Northern Virginia neighbors,” Liana Castano, director of ERO's Washington, D.C., field office, said in a statement. “Mosquera is alleged to have committed numerous firearms crimes, including one that clearly endangered children. ERO Washington, DC continues to arrest unpatriotic and egregious criminals and continue to support communities in Washington, DC and Virginia. We will prioritize the safety of the public by excluding them from

The announcement came just as ICE revealed the number of convicted illegal immigrants on its non-custodial records.

Among those not in custody, there are 425,431 convicted criminals and 222,141 with pending criminal charges, according to the data.

In a statement accompanying the latter, ICE targeted so-called “sanctuary” cities that refuse to cooperate with federal law enforcement in deporting criminal illegal immigrants.

“ICE is aware that some jurisdictions are concerned that cooperation with federal immigration authorities will erode trust with immigrant communities and make it difficult for local law enforcement to serve these populations.'' “However, 'sanctuary' policies can end up sheltering dangerous criminals who often end up victimizing immigrants in the same communities.” .

It also highlighted DHS' efforts to eliminate illegal immigration, stating, “From mid-May 2023 to the end of July 2024, DHS will deport more than 893,600 people, including more than 138,300 family members.” The majority of all individuals encountered at immigration have been removed, returned, or expelled from the southwest border in the past three years.
