The Minnesota Vikings released a statement Monday commemorating the one-year anniversary of the “reprehensible” Hamas attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.
“We mourn all the innocent lives lost due to this ongoing conflict,” the statement read. “We know that we must work decisively to confront the rise in anti-Semitism and Islamophobia and to combat all forms of hatred. Prayers, a future of peace and security for the entire region is our deepest desire.” ”
Hamas launched attacks against Israel, sparking major conflicts in the Middle East that continue to escalate.

The first attack had a major impact on the sports world, including the NFL, as the war began midway through the 2023 season.
Many in the NFL, particularly Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots and president of the Foundation to Combat Anti-Semitism, spoke out after the Hamas attack and said hatred against Jews was “out of control.”
Vikings' Greg Joseph to wear 'I STAND WITH ISRAEL' cleats at next game
The Vikings also launched the “Kick for Israel” campaign on October 17, 2023, with then-veteran kicker Greg Joseph raising money for Israel.
Joseph, who is Jewish and said his religion has “absolutely” guided him throughout his life, donated $54 for every extra point and $180 for every field goal made to the nonprofit organization Recket Israel. .

Joseph is currently kicking for the New York Giants, whom he signed after Graham Gano was injured earlier this season. Last season, he wore shoes that read “I Stand With Israel,” and his campaign raised more than $7,000 in donations.
As the Vikings said in a statement, 101 hostages remain in Gaza as the conflict continues.
While the United States provides military aid to Israel, it has vetoed the UN Security Council's ceasefire resolution.
