Decades before actress Natasha Rothwell set foot in London, she dreamed of living there. Historic charm – a stately theatre and a incremental home – was part of Puru. Another reason was its connection to the city with the classic ROM-COM films.
“'Notting Hill' and 'Really Love' and 'Bridget Jones' Diary' definitely made me feel like a place where love is possible,” he said in the current season of the hit HBO show 'The White Lotus' said Rothwell, who starred. ”
In 2021, Los Angeles residents had the opportunity to become part-time locals in London while filming the film Wonka. For five months there, 44-year-old Rothwell took long walks along the Thames, enjoyed a “pretty exquisite” dinner at Harwood Arms, a Michelin-starred pub, and frequented visits to the Tate Modern Art Gallery. I bought a membership. .
Rothwell's culture and preference for self-discovery works in parallel with that of Belinda Lindsey, her character from “The White Lotus.” Belinda, the empathetic spa manager for Season 1's fictional resort White Lotus Maui, will return to Season 3, which took place in Thailand and debuted on February 16th. I'm trying to find a healing journey, a way to trust again and a way to become more independent,” Rothwell said of Belinda.
Rothwell's recent visit to London lasted just 48 hours for a press trip to “White Lotus.” When she can stay a little longer, here are five of Rothwell's top London destinations.
1. Bridge Theater
Surrounded by the shadows of the iconic Tower Bridge, the Riverfront Bridge Theater was instantly familiar with Rothwell. “It brought me back to my roots of being a theatre major and just nodding,” she said. The avant-garde facility reminded her of the Wool Mammoth Theatre in Washington, DC, after she graduated from college.
During Rothwell's first stay in London, she was a gritty “kind of punk” vibe and the theatre of Bridge Theatre, while attending “White Noise,” a critically acclaimed play by Susan Lori Park. Take stock of a crowd full of purists.
“It felt like everyone there knew it was a sacred place where art could be performed,” she said.
2. Mimi May Fair
According to Rothwell, much of the appeal of the London culinary scene is the unique offerings of both modest neighborhood favorites and “super boogie” locations. Mimi May Fair, a Chinese restaurant in the upscale May Fair district, feels like a combination of both.
“When you go in, it's a hole in the wall, but it's a decor that feels like it's vast,” she said. “Every section of the restaurant is very ornamented.”
Mimi Mei Fair's menu blends classic Chinese dishes like roasted Peking duck (which Rothwell calls “incredible”) with creative dishes like Singaporean chili shrimp and sesame cigars. I will.
“It's small, it's intimate, but it's just tasty,” she said.
3. Hyde Park
Listening to audiobooks in your headphones is how you catch the “Anxiety” and “How to Die by Yourself” stars around Hyde Park. “It's a cool place to feel really cool and lost, and lost,” she says of the lush 350-acre park adjacent to Buckingham Palace and includes Princess Welsh's Memorial Fountain Princess's Granite Diana. Ta.
Rothwell acknowledges the contrast between Hyde Park and the park in New York City, where he once lived. “In Central Park, you always feel the presence of the city,” she said. “Whenever you walk around Hyde Park, you've disappeared. You'll hear that, but it's even more in the background.”
During filming “Wonka,” Rothwell and her co-star Lakhee Takuler sneaked pints into the park and set up a shop on an endless meadow. “The sun set and the day has changed to night,” she said. “The stars were so noticeable and beautiful afterwards.”
4. DauntBooksMarylebone
Located in the picturesque Mayfair district, Daunt Books Marylebone offers visitors a unique story, like a good novel sitting on its shelf. “I love things that reveal yourself the deeper you go into them,” Rothwell said.
The curved rear wall windows are spectacular and decorated with mosaic stained glass. The small space is warmly lit, with book-filled walls located under a gorgeous Victorian oak balcony.
“There was an area downstairs, there were art books and periodicals, but I felt warm and cozy of all kinds,” she said. “It makes you want to read,” and stock up. At Rothwell's Los Angeles home at the night stand, there's a book he bought from Daunt's book, “No Cracked Spine.” She also cherishes her free tote bag.
5. Corinth London
Lobby culture is a thing. Among the things Rothwell calls the “Swanking” Corinth London Hotel, there is a grand piano and chandelier at the entrance, “very classy, as I felt like I wanted to put Pinky on my way through the door. I felt that way,” she said.
Rothwell stayed at a hotel near the council building during his “White Lotus” promotional trip. One evening, Rothwell, along with White Lotus co-stars Amy Lowood and Michel Monaghan, got caught up in a bespoke cocktail at the velvet hotel in Salvatore Calabrese Bar. “There's velvet everywhere,” she said. “It's lush and the drinks are incredible.”
Rothwell's lifelong love and events with the city have grown through each trip. Will she throw London to “White Lotus” creator Mike White as a potential destination for season 4?
“Well, if my character survived season 3,” she said with a laugh. “I know you were trying to do it there.”
