I saw you on the stairs last night
the little man who wasn't there
he wasn't there today either
Oh, I wish he was gone…
— Hughes Mearns
January 20th marks the end of one of the most extraordinary episodes in American presidential history. For the past four years, President-elect Joe Biden has been absent.
Bloody historical events have shaken the world, including Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Hamas' pogrom in Israel, and the ensuing pentagonal Israel-Iran war, but Biden was not there.
Millions of un-Americans of all kinds – terrorists, criminals, Cuban Communists – are swarming across the Mexican border, crowding into urban centers, and billions of taxpayer dollars are being spent to support them. -And yet Biden wasn't there.
Biden slams Trump, says Trump was 'a real threat to democracy'
And speaking of money, trillions of dollars were spent by a tattered administration that built nothing and accomplished nothing, but managed to cause a spike in inflation that left ordinary Americans with no food, no cars, no money. Housing has become unaffordable — although that's not what Biden was there for. .
The President of the United States is to preside – it's in the title.
Biden didn't because he couldn't do it.
We are now told that from the beginning of this term old age had seriously weakened his body and dimmed his mind, and that the latter, remember, never had any particular brilliance. .
Biden's administrators worked hard to keep him out of the job. He spent 40 percent of his time in the office on vacation, much of it spent sipping ice cream cones on the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk.
It's a great show if you can get your hands on it.
But even when Biden was in Washington, there were “bad days” when he wasn't allowed to play president.
During his term, only seven ministerial meetings were held, or 1.75 per year. Did these people know each other's names?
I can imagine that the meeting was spent figuring out who the gay gay guy sitting two chairs away at the big table was, rather than coordinating policy.
It was a cabinet that wasn't there.
Chuck Schumer confronts old footage of himself declaring Biden's resignation 'right-wing propaganda'
The expected result was a complete policy vacuum. The US government raised slogans such as “weapons of democracy'' meant Ukraine, “immediate ceasefire'' meant Israel, and “fairness'' meant racism.
And once that slogan was uttered, we were stuck with it forever. It is impossible for a brain-dead government to learn from its mistakes—for example, in its dealings with Russia and the Middle East.
Mr. Biden has had days when he appears to be doing well, with a penchant for making bizarre and shocking statements even when he is allowed to go out in public.
He said regime change in Russia was necessary. He said the United States would go to war with China if China invaded Taiwan. He said many things that contradicted past U.S. positions and was in no way a liability to the administration, but these statements must be retracted, denied, and spun by frightened White House officials. It didn't happen.
When Mr. Biden said of his Republican opponent Donald Trump, “The only trash I see is his supporters,'' his staffers waved their arms and jumped up and down, saying, “No, no, the apostrophe is missing.'' I’m here,” he shouted. Apparently that made all the difference.
How does this happen? And who are these people? Who can tell the president that he's a total idiot and that he said no and it came back to him?
Who is actually there when Biden is not there?
Could it be his wife, the wonderful Dr. Jill? Is his sister, Valerie Biden Owens, described on Wikipedia as an “American political strategist”? Or White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients?
Who would make such a terrible decision on behalf of the richest and most powerful country while entire regions of the planet bleed and burn? Will it be National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan or the ineffable Antony Blinken?
For most of Mr. Biden's tenure, staffers were treated as mere underlings, tasked with cleaning up the rare missteps by their bosses.
Things changed, especially after Trump withdrew from the presidential race after his debate with Trump showed his cognitive incompetence sorely.
There is a renewed view that the president's family and staff have been overprotective of him. Out of love and loyalty, they “covered up” Biden’s now undisputed decline.
This is a gross misrepresentation of the situation that has prevailed for the past four years.
Jonathan Turley: What Jimmy Carter never did, Biden did. no wonder he didn't mention it
Those who have been making decisions on Biden's behalf have criminally usurped presidential power. In 2020, American voters elected Joe Biden, not Jill or Valerie Biden, Sullivan or Blinken, and gave him the ultimate power of the presidency.
If Biden had become too incapacitated, he could have invoked the 25th Amendment and resigned or been removed from office.
The coterie around Biden knew exactly what was going on. It wasn't subtle. “Joe Biden is like dead. Not literally. He can't say a word,” said national security official Henry Appel.
Those closest to the president must have seen him at his worst.
Yet they chose to run a scam that turned Biden into a scripted sock puppet and got the thrill of running the world.
“Blind ambition” is a cliché, but his disregard for the consequences of this scandal would make Lady Macbeth blush. All the while, the entire federal government was flying blind, like an airplane forever circling on autopilot.
As you can see, I have too many questions, but I'll limit myself to two big questions.
First, please tell us the name and address of the actual person in our administration who made the call to persistently trample on our civil rights.
Someone ordered Catholic groups and anti-transgender parents to be treated as terrorists by the FBI and Department of Homeland Security. Someone has allocated funding to a tentacle-like online censorship structure that silences or demotes opinions that are offensive to those in power.
Someone has “debanked” people who are legitimately working on artificial intelligence and cryptocurrencies, or banished them from the financial system. Someone overrode the prosecutor's authority to hunt down and persecute political opponents, especially Trumpists.
We know that Joe Biden did not commit any of these unconstitutional acts. He has gone too far.
So who did it? And what punishment should they be given?
David Marcus: Biden awards Liz Cheney with Presidential Medal of Inheritance
My second question is, where the hell was the press while this clown show was going on?
Anyone with eyes to see could see that Biden had slipped to a faraway place from which there was no coming back. Most of us have had a parent or grandparent come over during that sad time. Suddenly, parents become children and children become parents.
This state of affairs was already visible from the beginning, even before it began, otherwise why would Biden campaign in 2020 from the comfort of his couch in the basement of his home in Delaware?
The media should speak truth to power. They should have many sources of information and deep connections. The noble purpose of journalism, we are told, is to inform the public and produce better citizens from an ignorant mass.
None of that was true, of course, but it has now been exposed as a laughable falsehood.
Reporters have special passes to the White House. They accompanied Biden on his trips, often aboard Air Force One. They saw what Appel saw: a president who “couldn't speak sentences.”
And they chose not to think about it, to say nothing about it, to curry favor with those in power by being curious at best and lying at worst.
Corruption in the media is so obvious that there is no need to elaborate. But there must be consequences.
Here's a modest suggestion: Disband the White House press corps. He will drive them out of the temple like money changers. Just as the people of Athens chose their public servants, they would choose by lottery the American citizens who would have the right to question the president.
Frustratingly, what we have conveniently come to call the “Biden administration” has decided to walk out in style.
Hundreds of pardons and commutations have been granted simply because it is possible.

Hunter Biden currently enjoys immunity from prosecution for any crimes he committed between 2014 and 2024, big or small. What kind of crime are we talking about? Maybe Jill Biden knows.
A brutal murderer on death row escapes execution and ends up living on taxpayers' large sums of money until the end. Why was this done? Maybe someone in the White House can explain.
Medals were also distributed like candy to political allies. Liz Cheney got it more than anyone else.
Cheney lost the last primary election by a 30% margin. I think it was because she was so unpopular that she became a hero to the establishment.
Biden on Monday “permanently” banned offshore drilling, one of a series of regulations that he said would be irreversible. On December 3, Biden surpassed his former boss, Barack Obama, with 96,088 pages of obesity regulations added to the Federal Register in one year.
Who orchestrated this pointless last-minute frenzy? A nanosecond after President Trump entered the White House, an irrevocable mission, even if carved in stone, was made with the stroke of a pen. will be deleted.
Led by the president-elect – who has a rather overbearing presence – a large number of rebels and reformers are closing in on Washington, DC. I can already hear the distant roar.
Never in my life has there been a greater need for change.
The new crowd will try to return the bureaucracy to its Stone Age diet. I wish them luck. But what I want at the moment is reliable answers about our predecessors: who did what to whom, and why.
