Former NFL head coach and Wisconsin Badgers football staff assistant Jack Del Rio was arrested Friday on OWI charges.
The 61-year-old man was driving early Friday morning in Madison, Wisconsin, when the car he was driving crashed into a road sign and destroyed a fence before coming to a stop in a yard, ESPN reported, citing incident reports. He was then arrested.

Police said Del Rio “exhibited signs of impairment” and admitted to being behind the wheel, according to the report. He was arrested for his first OWI and released from police custody.
“Wisconsin Athletics is aware of an incident involving football staff member Jack Del Rio,” the school told ESPN. “We take matters like this very seriously and continue to gather information.”
Del Rio and Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell announced late Monday that the coach would be leaving the team.
Del Rio released a statement on the matter late Monday.
“I'm grateful to Coach Fickell and the University of Wisconsin for the opportunity to work with such a talented coaching and support staff and some of the best young football players in the country,” he said.
“I have decided to step down from my position with the team so that we can fully focus on the remainder of the season.”
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Del Rio joined the Badgers' coaching staff as a senior advisor to Fickell before the start of the 2024 season.
He played in the NFL for 11 years before becoming an assistant there. He served as defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, and Washington Commanders. He served as the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Oakland Raiders.
