The WNBA posted a post on social media Friday commemorating Caitlin Clark's record-breaking rookie season.
However, fans took issue with the post not including Clark's full assist total.
“Clark set a single-season assists record with 321 total dimes and also set a single-game assists record with 19 goals against the Dallas Wings,” the post said.
In fact, Clark finished the season with 337 assists, a new record.

The previous record was 315, and Clark broke the record with 316 assists. However, with his 316th assist coming against the Las Vegas Aces on September 13th, Clark finished the night with his 321st assist of the season.
Still, the number used in the post has drawn derision from WNBA and Caitlin Clark fans.
One user wrote: “It's amazing how many mistakes this account gets every day. Kaitlyn has 337 assists. How hard is it to look up the stats on her page?”
Another frustrated user wrote, “Caitlin Clark had 337 assists in the regular season and added 17 assists in two postseason games. How hard is it to get the basic stats right?” I wrote.

Many also asked X to add a community note to the post clarifying that Clark had 16 more assists than stated in the post.
Clark's impact on the court during his rookie season changed the fortunes of his team and the landscape of the WNBA.
This year's WNBA Draft, in which the Indiana Fever selected Clark with the No. 1 overall pick, averaged 2.45 million viewers, the most in WNBA Draft history, and was the most-watched WNBA telecast since 2000. Clark is a full participant in the regular season. She helped the league reach record television viewership for games played simultaneously with NFL games.

Indiana lost 10 of its first 13 games to start the season, but as Clark got hot, so did the Fever. The four-game winning streak started a great run for the Fever, as they went 17-10 in their final 27 games to qualify for the playoffs.
Clark had an up-and-down performance in his first 14 games, falling short of 15 points a game seven times, but dropping 20 or more points six more times. However, she played more consistently, scoring in double figures in the next 25 games.

Clark set records for most points and 3-pointers by a rookie in league history, and became the first rookie to record a triple-double, a feat he achieved twice. Her 337 assists were not only the most by a rookie, but also the most by a player in a single season.
A recent YouGov survey found that Clark is one of the most popular basketball players in the world in 2024, ranking alongside athletes such as LeBron James and Stephen Curry. Clark's followers include many men and women.
The “Caitlin Clark Effect” became widely adopted in the media last year to explain Clark's influence on women's basketball at the college and professional levels.
