The New York Yankees continue to make moves.
According to YES Network reporter Jack Curry, the Yankees have signed first baseman Paul Goldschmidt to a one-year contract.
Goldschmidt, 37, spent the past six seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals and won National League MVP honors in 2022.

Last season was a slow year by Goldschmidt's standards, hitting just .245 with 22 home runs.
However, over the final two months of the season, Goldschmidt improved his batting, hitting .273 and getting on base more often.
Goldschmidt is a hitter with a career batting average of .289, 362 home runs, and 1,187 RBIs over his 14-year career.
First base was a position that didn't yield much offensive production for the Yankees last year, as both rookie Ben Rice and veteran Anthony Rizzo struggled.

Yankees first basemen's OPS (on-base percentage + slugging percentage) in 2024 was just .619, the worst in the major leagues.
The seven-time All-Star will slot into the middle of the Yankees' lineup despite losing Juan Soto to the New York Mets, adding to an already strong lineup.
After losing Soto, the Yankees turned to “Plan B.” The team signed starting pitcher Max Fried, acquired closer Devin Williams, acquired outfielder Cody Bellinger and signed Goldschmidt.

Goldschmidt is not the Yankees' first MVP award this offseason, as Bellinger won the 2019 National League MVP with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Yankees have a lineup of four MVP winners, including Goldschmidt, Bellinger, Giancarlo Stanton, and Aaron Judge.
Stanton won the NL MVP in 2017 with the Miami Marlins, and Judge won the AL MVP in both 2022 and 2024.
